Know what supports
the guidance.

We use primary consumer-protection guidance and collectors’ own published policies. Sources were checked October 16, 2026.

How this resource is put together

Official CFPB, FTC, IRS and legal-regulation sources support factual statements. Collector websites support descriptions of their own stated processes; they are not independent endorsements. Policy descriptions are dated and may not apply to every account.

Our worksheets turn those sources into practical questions. They do not authenticate a document, determine whether a debt is owed, calculate a legal deadline or rate a settlement. A checked item means only that you marked it found.

Content was researched and assembled with AI assistance. We do not represent it as reviewed by a licensed attorney, tax professional or financial adviser. Read the linked original source for its scope and current wording.
